Amber Warne, the director of upscaling and advancement at Workforce Solutions Capital Area in Austin, said that a recent report comparing states that maintained and states that canceled additional unemployment benefits for the unemployed saw no notable change between the numbers of people responding to job advertisements and candidates engaging in interviews. The unemployment benefits in Texas returned to what they were pre-pandemic over the summer.

“Ultimately today’s job candidates are just considering other important factors when choosing when and where to work,” Warne said. “Wage, childcare and transportation, those are some of the big factors that are driving people into certain jobs.”

Warne said that concern about in-person jobs and COVID-19 safety is still a factor in which positions employees seek out.
