Austin-Area Unemployment Steady at 2.7% in December

AUSTIN – Figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission today show the unemployment rate in the Austin-Round Rock MSA stayed at 2.7% in December 2018. The 2.7% unemployment rate represented 33,000 residents seeking employment. The region’s unemployment rate remained nearly one point below both the Texas (3.6%) and national (3.7%) rates.

The Austin-Round Rock MSA collectively added 3,200 jobs in December 2018. The region’s 3.5% annual growth rate represented the collective addition of 36,800 jobs since December 2017.

Further, unemployment in the Capital Area/Travis County remained unchanged at 2.6% from November 2018 through December 2018. The 2.6% unemployment rate represented 19,104 residents seeking employment. The Capital Area/Travis County unemployment rate remained below the overall Austin-Round Rock MSA, state of Texas and national rates.
