Choices Program – Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
For individuals receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Workforce Solutions Capital Area offers one-on-one job search assistance and support services through the Choices program.
What does Choices provide?
Choices is a no-cost employment program designed to give TANF recipients the assistance and support they need to find a job. Specifically, Choices can provide:
- Job search assistance
- Child care
- Transportation assistance
- Work-related expenses
- Referrals to other community services
Am I eligible for Choices?
Eligibility for the Choices program and TANF is determined by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).
The Choices program is mandatory for individuals receiving TANF unless they are given an exemption from HHSC.
What is the Non-Custodial Parent (NCP) Choices Program?
The NCP Choices Program is for individuals who have a child support case in which the child and/or custodial parent is currently or was receiving TANF or Medicaid benefits. To be eligible, non-custodial parents must live in Travis County, be unemployed or underemployed and be legally able to work in the U.S. Participation in the NCP program will become part of the child support court order and will be initiated by Office of the Attorney General staff at the request of the judge, the custodial parent or the non-custodial parent.
