Workforce Career & Education Outreach

Our team of Workforce Career & Education Outreach Specialists bring awareness of career possibilities to students in grades 6 through 12 in five area school districts: Austin, Del Valle, Elgin, Manor, and Pflugerville. This is a two-year program in partnership with school districts throughout the Austin metro area, for which we received a Workforce Career and Education Outreach Specialist Grant from the Texas Workforce Commission.

The team provides support and training for educators, administrators, and parents as they prepare students for their future careers. Our outreach specialists encourage local industries and communities to become involved in developing our region’s next generation of talented workers. Our outreach specialists work closely with school teachers and counselors, post-secondary training providers, businesses, and community partners to enhance career education opportunities available to students.

Students can utilize resources like the Targeted Occupations List, which identifies occupations that are in demand or emerging in the local economy, experiencing growth, and provide opportunities for high-skill, high-wage jobs in the Austin metro area. Students interested in career exploration can view our industry and occupational career profiles that contain information on growth projections, salary expectations, and education/skill requirements. For information about higher education options, students can go to Texas Career Check and find detailed information by school and program. At Texas Reality Check, students can learn how much their future living expenses will cost and the amount of money they will need to earn to pay for them.

Through their efforts, the outreach specialists will create awareness of high-demand jobs and equip middle and high school students with tools and information to prepare for their future careers.

In addition to the outreach specialists’ work on the campuses, Workforce Solutions is partnering with both the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce and E3 Alliance. The Chamber works closely with Workforce Solutions and the participating ISDs to help connect the ISDs to earn-and-learn opportunities such as internships and employment. E3 Alliance will connect the outreach specialists to the My Brothers Keeper Scholars program, which supports young men of color to obtain their high school diplomas, complete postsecondary education and training, and obtain employment.

E3 Alliance also facilitates the Austin College Access Network (ACAN), which is comprised of partners that support historically underrepresented students through middle school, high school and postsecondary education. E3 Alliance will connect the outreach specialists with ACAN so the college and career readiness network’s activities complement each other to wholly support students’ journey through middle and high school and into postsecondary and the workforce.
