Austin-Area Unemployment Approaching 3.0% in July

AUSTIN – Figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission today show the unemployment rate in the Austin-Round Rock MSA* increased from 2.7% in June 2019 to 2.9% in July 2019. The 2.9% unemployment rate represented 34,963 residents seeking employment. The region’s unemployment rate remained below both the Texas (3.7%)** and national (4.0%)** rates.

Despite the collective loss of 7,600 jobs in the Austin-Round Rock MSA in July 2019, the region’s overall 2.3% annual growth rate represented the collective addition of 24,400 jobs since July 2018.

Further, unemployment in the Capital Area/Travis County*** increased from 2.6% in June 2019 to 2.8% in July 2019. The 2.8% unemployment rate represented 20,227 residents seeking employment. The Capital Area/Travis County unemployment rate remained below the overall Austin-Round Rock MSA, state of Texas and national rates.

Austin-Area Unemployment Increases to 2.7% in June

AUSTIN – Figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission today show the unemployment rate in the Austin-Round Rock MSA* increased from 2.2% in May 2019 to 2.7% in June 2019. The 2.7% unemployment rate represented 33,197 residents seeking employment. The region’s unemployment rate remained below both the Texas (3.6%)** and national (3.8%)** rates.

The Austin-Round Rock MSA collectively added 4,000 jobs in June 2019. The region’s 2.2% annual growth rate represented the collective addition of 23,400 jobs since June 2018.

Further, unemployment in the Capital Area/Travis County*** increased from 2.1% in May 2019 to 2.6% in June 2019. The 2.6% unemployment rate represented 19,093 residents seeking employment. The Capital Area/Travis County unemployment rate remained below the overall Austin-Round Rock MSA, state of Texas and national rates.

New Manufacturing Partnership Shows Promise for Local Businesses and Career-Seekers

AUSTIN – Workforce Solutions Capital Area (Workforce Solutions) and the Austin Regional Manufacturing Association (ARMA) have partnered with Austin Community College (ACC) to launch a new pilot training program to prepare residents for high demand technical manufacturing jobs. On February 4, 2019, 14 students began a new production assistant training through ACC to become certified in manufacturing production through the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC).

The 14-week training program equips students with production-oriented competencies such as safety, quality practices and measurement, manufacturing production, and maintenance awareness. Graduates from the program will be qualified for entry-level production positions with the region’s top manufacturers.

Austin-Area Unemployment Inches Down to 3.1% in July

AUSTIN – Figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission today show the unemployment rate in the Austin-Round Rock MSA* dropped from 3.2% in June 2018 to 3.1% in July 2018. The 3.1% unemployment rate represented 36,600 residents seeking employment. The region’s unemployment rate remained significantly below both the Texas (4.0%)** and national (4.1%)** rates.

The Austin-Round Rock MSA collectively lost 13,800 jobs in July 2018. The region’s 2.9% annual growth rate represented the collective addition of 30,000 jobs since July 2017.

Further, unemployment in the Capital Area/Travis County*** also decreased from 3.1% in June 2018 to 3.0% in July 2018.  The 3.0% unemployment rate represented 21,275 residents seeking employment. The Capital Area/Travis County unemployment rate remained below the overall Austin-Round Rock MSA, state of Texas and national rates.

Austin-Area Unemployment Inches Up to 3.2% in June

AUSTIN – Figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission today show the unemployment rate in the Austin-Round Rock MSA* increased from 2.8% in May 2018 to 3.2% in June 2018. The 3.2% unemployment rate represented 38,100 residents seeking employment. The region’s unemployment rate remained significantly below both the Texas (4.2%)** and national (4.2%)** rates.

The Austin-Round Rock MSA collectively added 5,500 jobs in June 2018. The region’s 3.4% annual growth rate represented the collective addition of 35,700 jobs since June 2017.

Further, unemployment in the Capital Area/Travis County*** also increased from 2.7% in May 2018 to 3.1% in June 2018.  The 3.1% unemployment rate represented 22,087 residents seeking employment. The Capital Area/Travis County unemployment rate remained below the overall Austin-Round Rock MSA, state of Texas and national rates.
