JPMorgan Chase grant award to ACC

JPMorgan Chase awarded a $250,000 grant to Austin Community College (ACC) to expand apprenticeship and other earn-and-learn positions for students. The grant will support ACC's Career ACCelerator Program, which offers a self-paced training schedule that allows students to be job-ready in as little as one year. ACC partnered with Workforce Solutions Capital Area and the Austin Chamber of Commerce for this grant.

Teacher Externship Program
This unique professional development opportunity connects the classroom to the workplace. In summer 2019, we placed 48 teachers from 3 area school districts in externships with 24 employers in various industries.

Ricardo wanted a career but wasn't ready for college. An apprenticeship program for electricians, with paid wages and classroom learning, was the valuable opportunity he was seeking. "I like to look good in other people's eyes," says Ricardo.



Trade Up Texas: Angel's Story
For Angel, working as a flooring installer means seeing the fruits of his labor at the end of each work day. By learning as an apprentice, Angel found success without a four-year degree. Watch his story.

After high school, Chris chose learning with his hands in Austin's skilled trades workforce. He completed a carpenter's apprenticeship and is a carpentry foreman today. Watch his story.

Youth Career Fest Event

Youth Career Fest is a free public event that seeks to inform students in grades 8 - 12 of their potential career paths by facilitating conversations between students and professionals from a variety of fields.

Representatives from information technology employers, government agencies, engineering firms and more have participated in past Youth Career Fest events. In 2018, more than 140 local employers and higher education representatives attended.

The Austin Metro Area Master Community Workforce Plan officially launched June 1, 2017. Year One of this ambitious but necessary five-year community plan has been both a great success and a valuable learning lesson.

Join us in both celebrating our early wins and discussing how our community will continue to move forward in years two throug give of the Master Plan.



A unique event targeting the youth often left out of traditional career fairs - Opportunity Youth. This event aims to not only expose opportunity youth to in-demand career opportunities in our community but to also provide them with opportunities to participate in job shadowing activities with local employers. Following the Career Fair, interested opportunity youth will attend job shadowing appointments occurring the month of October.
