Texas Workforce Commission We Hire Vets
Workforce Solutions Capital Area has earned recognition for committing to hiring veterans with the “We Hire Vets” award from the Texas Workforce Commission in 2018, 2019 and 2020. Today, 14 percent of Workforce Solutions Capital Area Board employees are veterans.
The Texas Workforce Commission, with the Texas Veterans Commission and Texas Workforce Solutions Offices, launched the “We Hire Vets” employer recognition program in July 2017. Employers whose workforce is composed of at least 10 percent military veterans are eligible for recognition, which includes a display decal for employers’ storefronts and an electronic decal to display on employers’ websites. The “We Hire Vets” program is part of the Texas Workforce Commission’s Texas Operation Welcome Home initiative.

Department of Labor HIRE Vets Medallion
On November 8, 2018, the U.S. Department of Labor recognized Workforce Solutions Capital Area Board Staff as a gold recipient of the 2018 HIRE Vets Medallion Program Demonstration Award. The program is the only federal-level award that recognizes employers who recruit, hire, and retain America’s veterans.
Recipients of the award range from small businesses and nonprofits to Fortune 500 companies from 42 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The HIRE Vets Medallion Program recognizes organizations that demonstrate leadership in the recruitment and employment of our nation’s veterans.

City of Austin Family Friendly Workplace
Workforce Solutions Capital Area participates in the Family Friendly Workplace initiative to advance family-friendly policies in the workplace. Mayor Steve Adler, in partnership with City Council Member Natasha Harper-Madison and Early Matters Greater Austin (EMGA), announced the launch of the Family-Friendly Workplace initiative in May 2019.
EMGA created the "Family-Friendly Workplace Toolkit” as a resource outlining evidence-based practices employers can implement to attract and retain skilled employees and relevant local resources for employees and their families. Family-friendly policies can help families build safe, stable and nurturing environments for their young children.
